My Top Five Tutoring Tools by Gemma Coupar
1. Wacom One Board
I love that this simple USB board plugs into my laptop and I can write on it easily, rather than trying to use my finger on the mouse-pad! It's great for writing, showing Maths sums easily and gives me much more control and precision. I have the medium board as it gives me more space, but I'm sure the small version would also be useful.
2. LED Writing Board
This is such a fun way to engage learners! Simply plug the USB in (I use a portable power pack) and watch their words/numbers light up. This is always a favourite way to get reluctant writers to write and spell, but it can also be used for Maths, drawing, handwriting etc.
3. Dry Erase Pockets
I work with over 40 children every week, so this really cuts down on my printing costs and is much more environmentally friendly! Simply put the sheet in the pocket and write on it with a whiteboard pen. I take a photograph of the child's work to show their parents and then rub it out, ready to use with another child.
4. Shut the Box
A firm favourite in all my Maths groups! This 4 player version allows the children to play together and is a great way to reinforce number bonds and basic addition.
5. Blah, Blah, Blah!
Another favourite game amongst my students, this game from Mrs Wordsmith is a brilliant way to reinforce phonics. There are 3 levels to choose from, so can be used with a variety of ages and levels of phonics skills.
